Attention All Festival-Loving Foodies

With so many yummy food vendors at Panorama Music Festival to steal the show this weekend (July 28th-30th), we’d buy a ticket just to try everything!

After all, we all know the real headliners are the ones that’ll have our taste buds cheering. Here are our picks for the sweet treats that’ll make you forget how much money you just spent for your weekend passes.

  1. Sam’s Fried Ice Cream

Sam’s Fried Ice Cream/ @explorechinatown

Since 2011, Sam’s has been drawing crowds for the unique combination and of course, their insanely tasty ice cream. Usually at a stand in Chinatown, but now coming straight to your crowd on Randall’s Island, Friday through Sunday! This is the perfect festival food to keep you stay cool without getting super messy. PRO TIP: The fried crust can keep your ice cream safe and contained while you flail around to your favorite songs! You’re welcome, you crazy kids!

       2. OddFellows

It’s not hard to figure out why this ice cream shop was deemed “wildly inventive” by the New York Times, with new takes on everything from ice cream sandwiches (the literal definition- ice cream in a brioche bun) to cotton candy cones. You’re already listening to the best music, why not top it off with the best snack?

        3. Ice and Vice

Ice and VIce/ @feedyourgirlfriend

This Lower East Side shop prides itself on its experimental flavors and handcrafted ice cream, where there is no such thing as a boring flavor. With a wide range of praise to choose from, we think Gothamist puts it best: “These guys make vanilla seem like the most interesting flavor on the planet.” Nuff said.

        4. Eggloo

Known as one of the most Instagrammable desserts of the summer, you’ve probably seen pictures like this one floating around your trendy friend’s social media. Don’t be skeptical and self-conscious to try something so popular around those free spirits at the festival, the hype is very much deserved.

Be sure to try these sweet treats to keep your energy up and enjoy!

Aaaand if you’re bummed about missing Panorama this weekend, treat yourself to one of our faves, La NewYorkina, delivered straight to your door. See, staying home has its perks too!

5 Best Peanut Butter Desserts in NYC

In honor of National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day and the beginning of National Peanut Butter Month, we’ve compiled a list of the best peanut butter desserts in New York City.

1. Levain Bakery Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip

With lines curling around the block, clearly everyone and their mother knows about Levain’s gooey fist-sized chocolate chip cookies. But did you know that they come in dark chocolate peanut butter, too? Nah didn’t think so.

Brave the line or get one delivered right to your doorstep here.

2. Doughnut Plant Peanut Butter and Jelly Doughnut

With its oozing, tart black berry jam center, eating one of these will definitely leave you with some shirt stains. But honestly, we’d eat Doughnut Plant’s pillowy peanut-studded yeast doughnuts plain, so we’re not going to complain. There’s also a banana cream filled version for all you Elvis lovers out there.

3. Billy’s Bakery Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie

Pure peanut butter fluff in a graham cracker crust with a peanut rim, topped with peanut butter cups and a chocolate drizzle. It doesn’t get better than this.

Treat yourself to a slice (or five) for yourself here.

4. Butter & Scotch Trifecta Pie

Oh wait, it might! Brooklyn’s boozy Butter & Scotch Bakery kicks it up a notch with the addition of salted pretzel to their dark chocolate peanut butter pie, lovingly dubbed the ‘Trifecta.’

Spare yourself the subway ride to Brooklyn and get a slice here.

5. Peanut Butter & Co Peanut Butters

Okay, so it’s not technically a dessert, but nothing’s really stopping you from eating an entire jar of any of Peanut Butter & Co’s flavored peanut butters with a spoon. Our personal favorite is the Bee’s Knees, a peanut butter blended with honey (!!!). With flavors from chile to cinnamon raisin, and a slew of other nut butters, there’s something for everyone.

La Newyorkina: Best Paletas in NYC

This month’s Dessert Spotlight features a new addition to Sweetist: La Newyorkina, the Mexican paleteria/ice creamery/all things Mexican dessert shop run by Fany Gerson, also head of the Dough donut empire. While La Newyorkina’s carts and its refreshing paletas have been a feature of New York City summers since 2010, its first brick-and-mortar location in West Village has only been open a few months.

The shop features an expanded menu, including not only its famed paletas, but also other frozen desserts, like handmade nieves de garrafa or helados, and other Mexican confections. And with a portion of their profits going to Crea, an organization based in Mexico that helps women from low-income households create and run small businesses, La Newyorkina is truly redefining the term “guilt-free dessert.”

Head over to La Newyorkina to try some of these frozen treats, or learn how to make your own with Fany’s upcoming book, Mexican Ice Cream: Beloved Recipes and Stories (preorder here).

Our Picks:

Nieves de Garrafa

Nieves de Garrafa is a hand-paddled water-based sorbet that Gerson describes as “custard in its purest form” is handmade in store daily. Flavors rotate everyday, but our favorites are the mango (pictured below) and the queso fresco, a soft Mexican cheese.

Horchata Ice Cream

With flavors ranging from pumpkin seed brittle to corn, horchata might not be the most creative flavor on the menu, but does that really matter when it’s this good? La Newyorkina’s horchata is creamy, but not overly so, with bits of cinnamon and sugar providing some much needed grit (pictured below with scoops of the coco-choco, a fresh coconut cream with dark chocolate bits, and the Oaxacan chocolate).

Paletas (duh)

While you can’t go wrong with any of La Newyorkina’s paletas, from either fruity or creamy, or even a blend of both, our favorites are the canela and cajeta, a Mexican cinnamon ice encasing an oozing cajeta, or goat caramel, filling and the equally gooey fresa con crema (are you sensing a theme yet?), a strawberry paleta with a condensed milk center (both pictured below).

5 Ways to Treat Yo' Self This Valentine's Day

image

Valentine’s Day is stressful. We’re here to help.

1. Take a breather

Life is busy, but sometimes you’ve just got to take a moment and smell the roses (or some rose flavored macarons from Mille-feuille).

Mille-feuille Bakery Cafe / @eatinggirl

2. Get creative!

Make something. Don’t just smell those rose flavored macarons, bake your own in Mille-feuille’s macaron-making classes.

3. Snuggle up.

All you need is a fuzzy blanket and a warm drink. A sea salt chocolate chip cookie from Sweet Corner Bakeshop wouldn’t hurt either.

Best Places to Get Baked Goods Delivered in NYC

Sweetist is the only delivery service exclusively for baked goods and desserts. Our goal is to make it easier to celebrate any occasion with great food from local bakeries. We deliver to Manhattan, up to 125th St., and to some parts of Brooklyn. Check us out, our list of bakeries is growing rapidly!

When a sugar craving strikes, a go-to place for ordering baked goods is essential. Living in New York City means that there is an abundance of amazing bakeries nearby at all times. Thanks to online ordering, you can get fresh-baked delicacies delivered right to your door without getting out of your pajamas. We took a close look at all of your options, and these 7 places took the cake.

1. Insomnia Cookies

image

Insomnia Cookies is famous for offering fresh, warm cookies until 3AM. They have a variety of locations around Manhattan (mostly near NYU). Popular offerings include Double Chocolate Chunk and S’more Jumbo Deluxe. In addition to cookies, they also deliver ice cream and cold milk. Deliveries cost $1.50 and usually take around 30-45 minutes.

2. Seamless/Grubhub

image

Why stop at dinner? Despite the fact that Seamless (now partnered with Grubhub) is best known for quick dinners and appetizers, you can find a few bakeries under the Seamless “dessert” category. Most of these bakeries have delivery minimums, but Seamless is great for a last-minute treat for when you’re having guests over and you already ate all the cookie dough.

3. Postmates

image

Postmates is one of the most well-known sites for ordering desserts in NYC, largely because of their partnerships with Momofuku Milk Bar and Dominique Ansel. Although they do charge a service fee and a delivery fee, Postmates is undoubtedly convenient when you need a sugary pick-me-up alongside your paper towels and diet soda from the Postmates General Store. The cronuts are calling.

4. Caviar

image

With a focus on independent, high-end restaurants, Caviar is a nationwide service for food delivery. Their restaurants are required to have at least 4 stars on Yelp and a minimum of 1,000 reviews. At this time they only offer a handful of baked goods to NYC, but their list includes artisanal favorites like Prohibition Bakery (boozy cupcakes!) and Doughnuttery (adorable mini doughnuts!).

5. Delivery.com

image

Delivery.com is an online delivery service that includes booze, groceries and even laundry. At this time, they only have a few bakery/cafe partners, including Seven Grams Caffe. Let’s hope they’ll add more soon. What goes better with fresh laundry than cupcakes?

6. Milk & Cookies Bakery

image

Like Insomnia Cookies, the folks at Milk & Cookies Bakery do their own deliveries between 11AM and 5pm. Be aware that they charge a delivery fee for delivery locations outside of the West Village, and the minimum order is $25. Get ready to eat a lot of cookies.

7. UberEats

image

Uber is slowly taking over New York City, one smartphone at a time. Their new service, UberEats, offers a fixed menu delivered by Uber drivers within the hours of 11AM and 2PM. In addition to the regular lunches, they occasionally offer dessert: like the Famous Banana Pudding from Magnolia Bakery, which was only $1 for the #FoodBankFriday charity fundraiser.

image

If you’ve already tried all the other options without success, if you lie awake at night thinking about brownies, if you can’t think straight without a morning muffin or at least a scone in your system...

We’d love for you to check out Sweetist!
